I have to build a kickass machine to run the "advanced" games like AA3. I would like to hear your opinions and suggestions. I don't want a cheap machine that will be inadequate but at the same time, I don't want to spend too much. So a good medium of performance and reasonable cost. I would cap myself at $1000. Note that I only need the box (MOBO, Gfx Card, Quad-Core CPU, Memory, Power supply, HDD, case, cooling, etc). :geek:

For a pre built at a decent price here are a few. This is the one I would go with for the price from Tiger Direct. Do you want to build your own?

That is a good system for a good price that Timmy has posted up.
That would play the new AA on all settings High.

Thanks for the info Pops! And yup, I already have a 22" monitor Luckdawg. I could build it myself, but I've been so out of touch with the latest gfx performance technologies that I would rather listen to my m8s what's out there. I will start looking into my options, but what is the best gfx card out there? Single or dual sli, etc?

the newest top of the line GFX card is the Nvidia 295GTX (bought myself one last week) and it's a monster!
But you really need a good PSU for that! Cause, well... it's a monster ;)

Depending on what other things you might be doing with the system I would consider jumping up to 12GB of ram. Should only be about $80-$120 more depending on brand/speed. But that would be one kick ass system.

Sadly I7 is nice to brag about but the results are not worth it till games have FULL quad-support not the half-ass support it currently has (example GTA4)

Also note he wont tell you WHAT the parts # are this is very bad imo...if they don't tell you then be assured its most likely not the best. Could be a Deathstar or Hitachi 5 minute drive...a junkie X58 board.

Unless he will give you detailed specs id build your own I7 or try the one below.

A system I built for my father is this last few weeks.

Processor

Power Supply

HDD (badass drives 2 RAID0 = 360mb burst rate 1 = 180mb or so)

Case (I love these cases bought 4 for $60 last year free shipping)

CPU Cooler Your call...I used a Xigmatek S1283 because the Antec 900 has a top fan.

GPU GTX 260

OR if you like ATI

ATI 4890 1GB

Total price = $877.14 after rebates = $822.14 with the Nvidia card.

With ATI

Total price = $898.23 after rebates = 843.23 with the ATI card.

You can also SLI later on when prices drop. Though I would choose a better motherboard if you want to SLI. Wont hinder the card a lot but it will a bit.

I overclocked the PII to 3.4ghz and I overclocked the GTX 260 216 core and his settings on WoW with a 32 inch LCD are 40+ FPS. Which is impressive since WoW has a leak in their new Engine.

I dare say it might be better then my Q6600 system.

You can also pay a bit more for a better board for SLI and get 2 GTX 260s and overclock both. I have ran a GTX 295 on my TX750w without issues with my Q6600 @ 3.6ghz. I run about 640w on average load and STILL pay less then then I7 build :)

I personally wont have to upgrade till next year or longer...even when quads become normal will be a LONG time before a 3.0ghz+ quad is "useless"
